Wart Removal in Minneapolis
Overview
A wart is a raised, rough growth on the skin that is caused by a number of strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV). Although there are several over-the-counter and home treatments for warts, wart removal treatment provided in a medical setting is the most effective.
Warts are very common and can be an unsightly and embarrassing problem. They typically last for a few months and then disappear but they are also known to recur. Wart removal treatment is only necessary if the lesions are painful or if they pose a cosmetic problem. Most wart removal treatments must be repeated for permanent removal to be achieved. Wart removal options offered at Hogue Cosmetic Surgery include the following:
- Keratolysis: Keratolysis consists of removing dead surface skin cells with salicylic acid, blistering agents, formaldehyde, or immune system modifiers.
- Cryosurgery: During cryosurgery, liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the wart, making it fall off by itself along with the surrounding skin. Surgical removal of the wart may also be necessary.
- Candida Injections: Candida injections at the site of the wart stimulate the body’s immune system to eliminate the wart.
- Laser Treatment: Warts can be burned off with laser treatment.
- Imiquimod: Imiquimod is a topical prescription cream that aids the body’s immune system in fighting the wart through encouraging interferon production.
