Tumescent Liposuction in Minneapolis

Tumescent liposuction is considered to provide the best results, least pain, and shortest recovery time of any liposuction procedure. Furthermore, tumescent liposuction is considered the safest of all liposuction procedures because it does not require general anesthesia. The procedure can be performed with only local anesthesia.

With the tumescent technique, a large volume of dilute local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a capillary constrictor (epinephrine) is injected into the treatment area, which causes the injected fat tissue to become swollen and firm, or in other words, tumescent. Since the tumescent technique completely numbs the treatment area, the need for general anesthesia is eliminated. In addition to providing local anesthesia, the tumescent technique constricts capillaries, prevents surgical blood loss, and provides fluid to the body so that IV fluids are not needed.

The tumescent liposuction technique was invented in 1985 by Dr. Jeffery Klein.
